Compostelle de Saint Jacques - 12- 18km gently undulating trail today
Todays run starts from the market town of Thiviers which is famous for its foie gras. We leave the town and head off into the countryside along a nice single track trail, winding our way through farmyards, small hamlets, run along little lanes, pass under an old railway line and before we know it we are passing duck farms, snail farms, free range pig farms ! We run past orchards, walnut orchards, truffle woodland and fruit orchards. There is such diversity just along this section of the trail.
We run for a while along the old romain road, which is a straight as a dye, regardless of the undulating hills, then it is back off along old farm trails. We pass through the village of Negrondes where we will stop and take our picnic lunch just next to the small boulangerie and shop.Roughly 12km at this point.
Then we will finish our run as we head off into the countryside again making our way to Sorges, the final 6km.
Sorges is world renown for its black truffles and there is a truffle museum that you can visit at the end of our run if you wish, whilst we sit in the shade of the large walnut trees and recuperate after todays run. We will have passed several truffle orchards on our run, most of them are all pretty close guarded secrets and no local is going to point out where he finds his truffles ! Newly planted truffle orchards can also be seen, these are normally fenced to give the new trees a chance to grow and not be eaten by the local wild animals
On all our runs there are chances to see the wild deer that freely roam these parts, plus we maybe lucky enough to see a wild boar, but they are much more secretive!
*All of the afternoon runs are optional, a decision can be made after lunch as to whether you wish to do the run or opt out. This trail running holiday is all about enjoying the experience, nothing is a race.
